Palm may release a brand new Android smartphone with a 33-inch display: Report

Eight years after it was bought by HP, it look slike we might see a new Palm device soon. According to a report by Android Headlines, there might be a new Palm device in the works. As per the report, the new device is shaping up to be one of the smallest Android devices to be launched in recent times.

The device is tipped to feature a 3.3-inch LCD screen with an 720p resolution.   According to the report, the device is codenamed ‘Pepito’ and it is tipped run Android Oreo v8.1. It is expected to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 SoC with 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage. The device may also be available in multiple storage and RAM variants. Other features include a tiny 800mAh battery and the lack of a headphone jack. The report note that the phone might be exclusive to Verizon in the US, and it is not yet known if it will be launched globally. If launched, this phone may be one of the most compact Android device to be available in the market.

If it does turn out to be a budget device, it may also be able to give stiff competition to Android Go powered devices as it will be able to offer a full version of Google mobile operating system. To recall, Palm started struggling in the market following the launch of the iPhone and other Android-based smartphones. The company was put up for sale a few years after the launch of the iPhone and was bought by HP for $1.2 billion in 2010.

The acquisition also have HP access to the company’s experience and expertise in the smartphone business, including its proprietary WebOS operating system. However, even then HP wasn’t able to break into the market. Three years later, LG bought WebOS from HP and used it in its own products. Most notably. WebOS is still being used in LG’s lineup of smart TVs, including its new Ultra HD 4K OLED TV, the 55-inch LG OLED55C8PTA. You can read our review of the TV here.
