Honor Play gaming smartphone with Kirin 970, GPU Turbo launched in India, prices start at Rs 19,999


Honor has launched its gaming smartphone, the Honor Play, in India a couple of months after unveiling it in China. The phone is available in two variants, one with 4GB RAM, and other with 6GB RAM. 

The two variants are priced at Rs 19,999 and Rs 23,999 respectively. The highlight of the phone is the fact that it is the first device to offer the company’s new GPU Turbo technology. The phone will be available starting August 6 (today), 4PM onwards and will be exclusively available from Amazon India. It is available in two colours, Navy Blue and Midnight Black. 

The Honor Play features a 6.3-inch IPS LCD display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. The smartphone is powered by the company’s flagship chipset, the Kirin 970. Both variants of the phone offer 64GB of built in storage, with a slot for memory expansion. At the back of the device is a dual-rear camera setup featuring a 16MP+2MP combination. At the front is a single 16MP unit. As with most new smartphones, the camera on the Honor Play comes with scene recognition and can automatically identify different scenes. 

It will then adjust camera settings automaticaly.  The Honor Play is equipped with a 3750mAh battery with support for fast charging. Other gaming centric features include AI 3D Surround Sound and AI 4D Smart Shock, and of course, GPU Turbo. 

The company claims that GPU Turbo improves graphics processing efficiency by up to 60 percent, which reducing SoC power consumption by 30 percent. Honor also says that the feature reducing jitter rate by maintaining the optimal FPS of the mobile device. The company has already said that it will roll out the GPU Turbo feature to other Honor devices via an OTA update. 

The company also claims that it use AI to offer a more immersive gaming experience. Honor says that AI real-time image and audio recognition is enabled for 30 difference scenarios and 10 different vibrations. The company calls this AI 4D Smart Shock. With it, users will experience different levels of vibration based on the direction of approaching enemies and gunfire.
