CES 2021 - AMD unveils Ryzen 5000 series mobile processors, two new Zen 3 desktop CPUs and next-gen EPYC Milan server processors

AMD has unveiled the Ryzen 5000 series mobile processors for thin-and-light and gaming laptops. These new laptop processors are based on AMD’s latest Zen 3 microarchitecture and models featuring them will be available starting in Q1 2021 (estimated February). Additionally, AMD also added two new desktop processors within the Ryzen 5000 family and also showcased AMD’s next-gen EPYC processors codenamed “Milan”.

As with the AMD Ryzen 4000 series mobile processors, these new Ryzen 5000 series will include H and U variants with the H-series targeted at high-performance gaming and content creation laptops and the U-series being designed for ultra-portable designs. Additional HX and HS variants will also be available for varying use cases. Here’s the entire set of AMD Ryzen 5000 series processors. Laptops featuring these new Ryzen 5000 series laptops will be available in the first half of 2021.

AMD Ryzen 5000 and Threadripper Pro desktop processors

While the Ryzen 5000 series desktop processors have been out for a while, we only saw four SKUs in the initial lineup. Today’s announcement sees two additional processors, Ryzen 9 5900 and Ryzen 7 5800X, joining the family. These are lower TDP versions of the Ryzen 9 5900X and Ryzen 7 5800X.
